That's fair. I suspect that if you'd liked the novella more, you'd feel more satisfied with the whole issue.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354250.post-91535420486736965862008-06-10T19:01:00.000-05:002008-06-10T19:01:00.000-05:00CB: That's the funny thing, I liked some of the st...CB: That's the funny thing, I liked some of the stories, but even as I finished a story I didn't have this overwhelming sense of satisfaction with the magazine as a whole. I can't quite explain that.Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16094675116398769415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354250.post-43747300420120222502008-06-10T18:58:00.000-05:002008-06-10T18:58:00.000-05:00You really had me going there. I think my disappointment in that was as much that I know you have had stronger lineups than this one, but it makes sense that if this is an average overview of what F&SF is, sending out an All Star issue would not accurately represent what you publish on a monthly basis.

Not that I would mind receiving an All Star issue, of course.Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16094675116398769415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354250.post-41383369813930069692008-06-10T07:40:00.000-05:002008-06-10T07:40:00.000-05:00Thanks for your feedback. An honest evaluation of "blah" means more to me than an insincere rating of "great".

Just to address your last point, that "...as a promotional copy I would have hoped that the quality would be a bit better than average to really excite new readers.", I want to point out that this _was_ an average issue. The idea behind this promotion was not to hook new readers with a socko-boffo special issue. Instead, the idea was to take a typical issue and see how a few dozen people respond to it.

So now I know that if I want to get you to subscribe, I've got to do better than this issue. That's valuable information for me. Thanks most sincerely.
---Gordon Van GelderAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
