re-reading The Wheel of Time

I've embarked on what may very well be my last read-through of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series for a very long time. I almost typed "final read-through" and left it at that, but I can't say for sure that I'll close that door forever. I'm only 29. I may want to revisit these old friends again in five or ten years and see who has changed (likely me).

Before I left for vacation I checked out the first three volumes from the library. I used to own the set through Book Ten, but I sold them all on eBay a few years back. Anyway, now that I'm back and read pretty much everything I brought with me to Disney I'm starting the read-through.

I haven't read anything from this series since 2005 when Knife of Dreams was published, but the last time I did a full series read-through was before the publication of Crossroads of Twilight in 2003.

I'm only a hundred pages into The Eye of the World, and I'm not sure how I plan to write about the books yet. I doubt I'll do full-on reviews, but I also imagine that I'll write more than a paragraph. We'll see.

Adam Whitehead is doing his own read-through, so feel free to check out his thoughts on the first three volumes (The Eye of the World, The Great Hunt, The Dragon Reborn). The links in this paragraph are to his reviews.

Adam's posting on The Eye of the World is rather good, especially in his coverage of both the positives and negatives of the novel.

I imagine I'll finish The Eye of the World sometime next week (Elizabeth Bear Week, for those keeping score at home), so any posting will be at least a week after that. Possibly two weeks if I get those other reviews written up as I hope to.

Hi Joe,

I plan on doing a re-read in preparation for the final volume. I think Crossroads was the last one I read in the series.
